Does Anything Repel No See Ums?

Does Anything Repel No See Ums?

Almost any so-call "repellent" when applied to your skin will deter no see ums  from landing and biting in varying degrees of effectiveness.  However, the word "repellent" is a misnomer.  Repellents should be called "blockers" because that is all that they do.  They do not prevent a horde of blood thirsty no see ums from swarming around your head, eyes, and mouth desperately looking for a place that you missed when you applied the latest goop of the day!  AND you cannot even have the satisfaction of killing a few because you cannot see um!

However, the trick is not to block an insect from biting you, buy rather to prevent them from finding you in the first place!

Today, science has proven that mosquitoes, black flies, no see um, chiggers, minges, deer flies, and ticks are all attracted to one thing......the carbon dioxide flume that all humans and animals exhale when they breathe!  (Research the Reseach)  And, science has also proven that certain formulas of fragrances will interfere with an insect's ability to detect carbon dioxide.

"If they cannot find you, they cannot bite you!" says Ole Time Woodsman Fly Dope.

As an ole time Mainer, Ole Time Woodsman Fly Dope has always been a staple in my tackle box.  However, now that I am a snow bird I was not prepared for the vicious noseeums in Florida!  I sent for a bottle of fly dope, sprayed it on my fishing hat, and NOSEEUMS NO MORE!

Back in 1910, when fly fisherman Obie Sherer was being chased from his favorite fishing hole in Maine by a hungry horde of black flies that he noticed a local Native American sitting peaceably by the stream without a biting insect in sight!  Now, this was way before chemical bug repellents became in vogue.  Deet was not patented until 1946.

Somewhere in his mind, either by chance or his love of fly fishing, Obie reckoned that a particular blend of natural fragrances from living in the woods could protect a person from biting insects!  Using a 1882 base formula that hunters in the day applied to themselves to camouflage their human scent, Obie developed a product that he called Ole Time Woodsman Fly Dope.  Soon thereafter a logging foreman saw Obie peaceably fishing in his favorite spot.  A handshake contract was made and the first commercial batch of Fly Dope was sold.

Ole Time Woodsman Fly Dope.  The world's first and best protection against all biting insects!

New to me use for old time woodsman.

Spent childhood summers in Rangeley Maine fighting the mosquitos while fly fishing boating and hiking. As an adult rediscovered that smell of the Maine woods which includes a liberal dose of old time woodsman. I sold land in NH and when the buyers up from down country pulled out their cutters I said no thanks I'll use my old time woodsman. They were not interested until about 5 minutes into the woods then they wanted to know if I had brought that stinky bug dope with me.  Yes I did.

Now in Alabama I've discover chiggers while picking my wild blackberries. Guess what works to stop chiggers? Old time woodsman. Liberal dose ALL over. No chiggers. Love the old time woodsman.
